Leadership Starts on the Inside

The transition from doer to leader is hard. It asks us to trade the satisfaction of personal achievement for the slower, deeper joy of developing others.

Over 45 years ago, I began a journey into leadership, and I'm still on it. I've led teams at Albertsons, Inc., coached executives at organizations from JB Hunt to Danone North America, and taught graduate courses at universities. Along the way, I wrote the book I wished someone had handed me with my first promotion. Because the best leaders never stop learning -- they just get more honest about how much they still have to learn.

More than 45 years of leading, teaching, and coaching, from the corporate offices at Albertsons, Inc. to the boardrooms of JB Hunt, Danone North America, Expedia, and the City of Meridian. Senior Consultant at CMOE. Emeritus at Boise State University.

How to Transition Into Leadership by Bryan Yager

The Book

How to Transition Into Leadership

...and Why That Changes Everything

New managers often struggle because they're still measuring success by personal productivity rather than team outcomes. The shift from "me" to "we" is the most significant leap any leader will make. This book is the guide I wish I'd had for that leap.

The resource you should have received with your first promotion.
I recently had the opportunity to attend several leadership training sessions that Bryan facilitated. Bryan has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience and he teaches with great enthusiasm and energy. The tools and tips I picked up during his courses were invaluable and have not only accelerated my leadership development but have helped me to become a better husband and father. Thank you Bryan!

Monday Morning Minute

"How will you live, love, or lead, differently, or better, this coming week?"

Every Monday morning, I share a short reflection on leadership, life, and what it means to grow. I always end with that question. Over the years, it has become a weekly ritual for leaders across the country. I'd love for you to join us.
