““You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” —Winston Churchill
Dear friends,
It has been, and is, my pleasure to bring you these missives each Monday morning. This coming February 8th will be my third anniversary of sharing stories, thoughts, concepts, principles, quotes, and lessons learned. If you count this birthday request as an article, this is number 146. My goal each week is to help you live, love, or lead differently, or better, in both your personal and professional circles.
Publishing these weekly missives is one of the ways I choose to “give back” after a lifetime of receiving and benefiting from others. Almost every topic I write about each week is derived from mistakes I have made, lessons I have learned, or the brilliance of others; including mentors, former managers, colleagues, clients, teachers, professors, friends, countless book authors, and of course, my parents. I have received much, and therefore, believe have much to return.
In recent months, I have been challenging all of us to dream bigger and to do better, to be our “best selves” during these difficult times, no matter our circumstances.
Like so many industries, and millions of small businesses everywhere, my business has also been negatively impacted by the pandemic this year. I am choosing not to use that as an excuse for not helping others worse off than me. I’m hoping you won’t either.
I have set a Birthday BHAG? (Big, Harry, Audacious, Goal)
In less than two weeks, I will celebrate my 65th birthday. My birthday wish is to raise enough money to feed a minimum of 6,500 meals to the hungry, homeless, and/or veterans by the end of the year, or if not then, at least by the end of January. What an incredibly wonderful birthday celebration that would be!!
How will I reach that goal?
200 donations of $65 each! (Or any equivalent combination of course. I will be grateful for donations of any size.)
If you’re not in a position to offer a financial donation at this time, could you help in other ways:
- Ask ten friends for $6.50 each?
- Share the link on your social media or email 65 friends. Click here to donate: Food for the Hungry, Hope for the Challenged
- Begin a similar effort in your neighborhood or community.
Our team of volunteers has served 5,040 meals since the start of the pandemic in early 2020. We hope others will join our efforts and this becomes only the beginning.
Because our team is currently buying, cooking, preparing, and delivering all of the prepared meals, 100% of donations are used to feed the hungry each month. For the most part, we are also self-funding. We are all working to make a positive difference in our respective corners of our worlds.
If you would like to support our efforts to feed the hungry and be a source of hope:

Thank you for your consideration and for your grace in allowing the use this platform for this one-time purpose! I only turn 65 once! My continued request is that we each take responsibility for our words and actions in our own little corners of the world. Let’s all strive be better people; to be our “best selves,” as I like to say. We can dream bigger; we can do better! Let’s not go back to normal, but forward to better!

How will you live, love, or lead better this coming week?
Regardless of which holiday occasion you are celebrating this season, I hope you are healthy & safe. May the weeks ahead be filled with warmth, love, joy, and happiness. Our family will be celebrating Christmas. (And my birthday! )
